How has the Summit's Tutoring Corps prepared you for a career in education?

The Tutor Corps has be an excellent introduction to a career in education. Over the year, I have had the opportunity to develop my skills while working with a small group of students and while observing in classrooms. I have gotten regular feedback from my coach on my strengths and ways to improve. Through Professional Development sessions.

As someone who intends to pursue a career in elementary education, working in a high school has been especially valuable.

Why Summit's Tutoring Corps?

The Summit teachers and faculty are a truly outstanding group of people. I am continuously impressed by their constant reflections on and assessment of their teaching practices, as well as their willingness to adapt and change their practices as they work towards creating the most equitable and rigorous learning environment possible. They are committed to providing each and every one of their students with what they need to succeed in school and developing the student’s academic confidence and belief in their ability to be successful.

Of course, the students are the best reason to join the Tutoring Corps. They are a wonderful group of kids and the Corps provides unique opportunity to build different kinds of strong student-teacher relationships with an entire grade level, a smaller, closer group of caseload students that need, and a group of mentees.

What has been the highlight of your year in Summit's Tutoring Corps?

I could point to a million moments! I look forward to coming in every day and seeing the ways my students have grown over the year - in academics, in self-confidence, in maturity, etc. I’m so proud of my kids and

I have to say that, although I feel my work is fulfilling to me and helpful for the students regardless of the thanks I get, the handful of thank-you notes I have received from students (for example, “Your edits really helped me out!!!! It must have taken you so long to finish all of that and I really appreciate your hard work. I hope you meet and fall in love with the person of your dreams and become a billionaire and live a successful and happy life.”) have really made my day.
