Ninth Graders–Find Your Future Here
Ninth Graders–Find Your Future Here
When Jenevere Guerrero began her freshman year of high school, she was nervous about how different it might be than her experience as an eighth grader. However, when she finished ninth grade, she found herself determined to succeed in this school, not just as a student, but as a
future instructor.
Ninth grade can be daunting. Students are tasked with greater responsibilities, a burgeoning sense of maturity, and a major push out of their comfort zones. Considering the way high school Is depicted in pop culture (Mean Girls, Euphoria, The Perks of Being a Wallflower might come to mind)it’s no wonder why students enter high school with a bubbling mix of curiosity, apprehension, and excitement.
Summit Atlas is proud to say that ninth grader Jenevere not only survived this dynamic transition, but she thrived. Jenevere is now thinking seriously about setting a strong foundation for her future. My next goal is to go to college,” she says, “I want to study psychology and social work and become a counselor here [at Summit Atlas] someday.”
When asked if she has found a strong mentor at Summit Atlas High School, Jenevere says yes. “ Ms. Alyssa [a counselor at Summit Atlas] is my role model; she inspires the person I want to be. I’m extremely motivated by seeing her passion.”
This fall, ninth graders will wander through the colorful walls of Summit Atlas, and experience unique opportunities that spark a sense of fulfillment and ignite their ambitions for the future.
“Everyone matters here,” Jenevere says about the school. “I have trust in my teachers that they will set me up for success. They make sure that I never feel alone and give me the confidence I need to advocate for myself.”
As Atlas students navigate new academic subjects and engage in extracurricular activities, they discover newfound talents and passions, all while forming friendships that have the potential to endure throughout their lives.
“Kids will always need help and I will make sure they get it because that is what my teachers did for me,” says Jenevere.
Jenevere has exciting plans for her future, and Ms. Alyssa will continue to be an important and impactful mentor as she navigates high school to graduation.
Ninth graders at Summit Atlas are special. Their unique perspectives and fresh enthusiasm bring a vibrant energy to the our school community. Teachers and older students recognize this pivotal moment in their lives and are dedicated to guiding them through the highs and lows of high school.
At Summit Atlas, every student is valued, and their growth is celebrated. Our advice for our freshmen looking to find their voices and envision their futures comes from the great Toni Morrison, and is something Jenevere embodies as she embarks on her high school journey: “If you surrendered to the air, you could ride it.”
